HOW DO I INSURE MY FUR?
Bring your furs into one of our professional furriers for a written appraisal. Give the written appraisal to your insurances provider so the fur can be added to your policy.

I HAVE AIR CONDITIONING, SO WHY SHOULD I PUT MY FURS IN STORAGE?
Air conditioning lowers the humidity in your home, which can dry out the pelts. Other factors that can damage your fur are heat, lighting, and insects.
DHM’s UL Certified Cold Storage vaults are temperature and humidity controlled, and monitored by security cameras. These vaults are designed to prevent furs from damage and theft.

MY FUR ISN’T DIRTY. DO I REALLY NEED TO BRING IT EVERY YEAR?
Yes. A professional cleaning can remove any harmful dirt or oils from your furs and ensure its longevity. Yearly cleaning is recommended by all furriers and reinforced by FICA.

FUR GOT WET. IS IT RUINED?
A small amount of water will not damage fur. Shake off any excess water and let your fur air dry. Once it is dried, shake it out once more to fluff it. If your fur is completely soaked, bring it to a DHM location for proper treatment.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SHEARED AND UNSHEARED FUR?
Sheared furs are furs that have been trimmed to allow for a slimmer, more modern look. Unsheared furs are kept at their natural length.
The length of the fur does not impact the warmth of the garment. Warmth is determined by the undercoat, which acts as insulation on the furs.
WHAT DETERMINES THE QUALITY OF MY FURS?
Fur quality is based on three factors: design, workmanship and pelts. The design needs to have the right fit and look, while workmanship needs to have even seems, matching pelts, and overall clean structure. Quality pelts need to be well-matched, supple, even in sheen and be lightweight.

WHY SHOULD I CHANGE TO THESE NEW MAGNETIC FASTENERS? WHAT ARE THEY EXACTLY?
Magnetic Fur Fasteners are small magnets that have been sewn into the garment along the opening. They provide a cleaner look than the classic hook-and-eye closure and since they are inside the garment, they are unseen when the fur is open.
